Andy White (A81-82) and his First Book with Cambridge!
Hello, everyone! I wanted to let my fellow Johnnies know that in my absence I have been somewhat active, morphing into a Byzantinist and focusing on what happens in Greek culture after Athens’ golden age.
My first book, “Performing Orthodox Ritual in Byzantium,” addresses the transition from traditional theatre (i.e., the Dionysia and the Roman theatre scene) to the early Christian cathedral rite.
The book is the first in a projected trilogy about the performing arts of the Eastern Roman Empire, broadly speaking, from grammar-school training in stage techniques to rhetorical classes in composing and performing solo routines/set speeches, and beyond. As my next books come into view I’ll provide updates.
